Introducing WECTAC

WECTAC is the social responsibility and development arm of the Abante Group.

Founded in 2001 its primary objective is to build up and strengthen poverty-stricken communities in the Western Cape through education and specialised leadership training programmes specifically aimed at the needs of youth. Closely linked and following on from these youth programmes WECTAC also runs teacher support programmes helping to better equip educators to fulfil their demanding role of preparing youth for responsible citizenship. Because WECTAC is concerned with every aspect of youth development, it is also involved in feeding schemes catering for children in target areas.

As a secondary focus WECTAC also runs job creation initiatives fulfilling the economic imperative of alleviating unemployment and poverty in disadvantaged communities while helping people achieve a sense of self worth through productivity.

WECTAC programmes have been introduced to neighbourhoods across the Western Cape ranging from Vredenburg fishing communities to Stellenbosch farming communities and including many on the Cape Flats .

Most of the WECTAC programmes are hosted at their West Coast venue in St Helena Bay where the relaxed atmosphere is conducive to learning and forming new friendships. Here fifty-four participants can be accommodated at any given time.

The success of these programmes has resulted in WECTAC being inundated with requests from community leaders and headmasters who wish to be included in the various projects. This has led to the hosting of mass workshops within the communities themselves in answer to the growing demand.
